SudoScan: A Noninvasive Tool for Detecting Diabetic Small Fiber Neuropathy and Autonomic Dysfunction.

Sweat glands are inherited by small sympathetic nerve c-fibers. Sudomotor (sweat) dysfunction is one of the earliest detectable neurophysiologic abnormalities in their peripheral nerves. Palms of the and and soles of the feet have the highest density of sweat glands.

1. Small nerve fibers are impaired at an early stage of peripheral neuropathy

2. Sweat gland nerve fiber density diminishes early with peripheral neuropathy

3. A strong correlation exists between sweat gland nerve fiber density and peripheral neuropathy

SudoScan is an FDA cleared noninvasive single test that assesses the sudomotor function and hence the integrity of those C-fibers of the peripheral autonomic nerves.

How does the physician use this to help patients?

1. Medicine is trending towards prevention of the onset of a disease or complications

2. Since the long the long nerve fibers slowly degenerate yet have the potential to quickly regenerate with changes in the patient’s environment, physicians can use SudoScan results to determine whether or not a patient is “at risk” of developing a complication and take proactive measures with treatment options

Hydrogen Breath Testing

Are you suffering from chronic bloating, flatulence, loose stools, diarrhea, trouble swallowing, abdominal pain or cramping? These symptoms often represent a problem with the digestive system. Too often treatment is based off of guess work and is initiated before identifying the underlying case of symptoms. This results in prolonged periods of illness, poorer outcomes, decreased quality of life, and leading to frustration for both the patient and the physician.

The hydrogen breath test (HBT) is a simple non-invasive, painless test that measures the amount of hydrogen in a person’s breath. This test is successful in diagnosing the three common causes of these gastrointestinal symptoms and complaints.

1. Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO): This i s a condition where bacteria that normally resides in the large intestine begin to grow exponentially in the small intestine. Medical studies show that half of people suffering from something diagnosed as irritable bowel symptoms are suffering from SIBO.

2. Lactose intolerance (milk allergy): A person’s inability to metabolize lactose, a sugar found in milk and milk products. This is the result of a deficiency of lactase, an enzyme used to digest lactose.

3. Fructose malabsorption: A person’s inability to absorb fructose in the large intestine causing irritating gastrointestinal symptoms.

We already have successfully diagnosed scores of patients with these medical conditions, bringing much needed satisfying relief to these patients with the right treatment approaches to these problems

Ankle-Brachial Index

The ankle-brachial index (ABI) is a quick, noninvasive way to check your risk of peripheral artery disease. Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a condition in which arteries in your legs or arms are narrowed or blocked. This helps with diagnosing PAD. PAD is associated with symptoms are pain, tingling, numbness, burning, and cramping that often is worse with activity. This is common in people with diabetes, nicotine dependence or history of nicotine use, high cholesterol, and hypertension. This is treatable and reversible once diagnosed.

ANSAR

Ever wonder what is going on inside your body? This tests the autonomic nervous system. It provides a powerful insight into your body. After all, this special nervous systems controls the body’s functions including our heart, blood vessels, regulates blood pressure, controls the lungs, digestive tract, bladder function, sexual organs, and even our body temperature. This is the fight versus flight system. This test is essentially a window to the internal working of the human body. A great boon to medical management! We can target treatment for multiple medical problems with the vital information that this test yields.

Comprehensive Balance Testing

Have you had a fall in the last year? Are you more reliant on a walking assistive device? Falls are the number one cause of injury for people who are over the age of 18 years, it is the leading cause of emergency room visits for those over the age of 25 years, including broken hips in the elderly, whose bones get weaker with age. Long bone fractures in the elderly is correlated with a very high 1 year mortality. Thanks to this new state of the art system, balance problems can be detected quickly and painlessly. This is significant in that measures can be undertaken to improve balance and reduce the potential falls, fractures and increased morbidity and mortality.

Women’s Annual Exam

An annual women’s exam is a once-a-year visit to your primary care provider for a general health check, including a breast exam and pap smear.

Annual Wellness Exams

A yearly appointment to discuss your plan of preventive care in the coming year.

Skin Cancer Evaluation

A head-to-toe examination of the skin, to find any new or changing lesions that might be cancerous or precancerous. Skin cancers found and removed early are almost always curable.

InterPath Lab

Interpath Laboratory has a wide network of patient service centers and testing facilities in addition to the main laboratory in Pendleton, Oregon. MAIN LINE – Patient Inquiries:  1-800-452-8106

Pneumococcal Vaccine

The pneumococcal vaccine prevents serious blood, brain, and lung infections from the Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria.

Flu Vaccine

The seasonal flu shot protects against the three or four influenza viruses that research indicates will be most common during the upcoming season.

Cognitive Testing

x

A cognitive assessment is an exam conducted to determine someone’s level of cognitive function.

Diabetic Screening

Prevention, timely diagnosis, and treatment are important in patients with diabetes mellitus. Diabetes unchecked can lead to damage to kidneys, heart, nerves, and is a risk factor for memory loss and dementia.

Balance Testing

Test your balance and develop a plan to address any issues. Falls are a leading cause of injury!

Coumadin Clinic

Regular care and monitoring for patients taking prescription blood-thinning medication (Coumadin).

Holter Monitor

A Holter monitor is a battery-operated portable device that measures and records your heart’s activity (ECG) continuously for 24 to 48 hours.

EKG

An electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) is a test that checks for problems with the electrical activity of your heart.

Ear Lavage

Ear Lavage is a routine procedure used to remove excess earwax, called cerumen, or foreign materials from the ear.

VNG

VNG (videonystagmography)is a series of tests used to determine the causes of a patient’s dizziness or balance disorders. This can help minimize the risk for falls and injuries.

PFT (Pulmonary Function Test)

PFTs are a group of tests that measure how well your lungs work. This includes how well you’re able to breathe and how effective your lungs are able to bring oxygen to the rest of your body.
