BodyTite vs. Liposuction
BodyTite and Liposuction are both in-office methods of fat removal that provide those who want to be rid of stubborn fat with the opportunity to do so. While these two methods are similar and deliver results, there are many differences between how they work, added benefits that come with treatments, and what is involved during the recovery period.
How They Work
Both of these fat removal methods successfully remove excess, stubborn fat from the body but they use different energy sources to do it.
Laser Energy
Traditional lipo involves the use of laser energy to break up fat cells beneath the surface of the skin. During the procedure, a very thin tube is inserted following a surgical incision into the treatment area. During the process, laser energy is used to break down the fat cells for easy removal. Once the fat cells are broken down, a thin tube called a cannula is inserted and a suctioning device removes the broken down fat from the treatment area out of the body.
Radio Frequency Energy
This treatment is unique because it utilizes a dual probe to both melt fat cells and tightens the skin. Radiofrequency energy liquefies fat cells but it also stimulates collagen production in the treatment area, which results in tighter skin and increased elasticity. Once stimulated, the body will increase collagen production in the area with loose skin, and gradually, as collagen increases in the area, there will be an increased firmness and improved skin tone.
The Different End Goals
Fat Loss
If you have age-related or weight loss-related loose skin, lipo will remove fat standing between you and your goal weight, but it won’t tighten the skin. You will need to undergo a separate treatment after a liposuction procedure to tighten any loose, extra skin.

Skin Tightening and Fat Loss
BodyTite treatment provides an extra benefit in addition to fat removal. It uses radiofrequency energy not only to melt fat cells but to stimulate collagen production deep within the skin to tighten loose skin. Radiofrequency energy stimulates collagen production which gradually leads to tighter more toned-looking skin. Those who undergo this treatment typically report a 40% increase in skin elasticity and firmness, which makes a very noticeable difference in appearance.
The Actual Process
These two fat removal methods also differ according to the total amount of time that each takes to complete, as well as the necessary measures that are taken during the actual process. Liposuction qualifies as a surgical procedure and typically takes anywhere from one to four hours to complete. It requires the use of general anesthesia, similar to other surgeries, and you will be unconscious for the duration of the procedure.
BodyTite treatments qualify as non-surgical treatments and take up to one hour to complete, based on how many areas you are having treated during a session. During treatment, you may only require local anesthesia, which will numb the treatment area for optimal comfort, and a mild sedative but will not cause you to become unconscious during the process.
The Recovery Process
Both of these fat removal methods involve a recovery period. Every aspect of the recovery period associated with BodyTite portland is significantly less demanding when compared to what is required following a traditional lipo procedure. When you compare all of the aspects of recovery, from the scarring to the swelling, to what you need to wear on your body afterward for optimal results, these two fat removal methods are very different from each other.
Scarring
If you experience any scarring following this non-surgical fat removal treatment, they will be minimal and will fade with time. There is a very low risk of scarring at all, as well as a very low risk of unwanted results. The scarring that results from typical liposuction procedures is generally more difficult to avoid and to hide. They will require additional skin treatments if you want to lighten them or work to remove them entirely.
Swelling and Bruising
Every liposuction procedure results in some amount of swelling and bruising in the treatment area but it is often deep and can lead to a significant amount of discomfort. This alternative treatment, however, only results in a very minimal amount of swelling at the treatment site, which can be easily managed with at-home care. Minimal swelling does not cause the same level of discomfort as that which is often associated with traditional lipo.
Downtime
Both of these fat removal methods involve downtime. Traditional lipo requires anywhere from one to two full weeks of downtime and a relatively long road to recovery. Such a recovery will require that you enlist help at home, take time off of work, and rest. Those who undergo the alternative, non-surgical treatment typically only experience two to three days of downtime and are fully recovered within one week of their treatment.
